Like father like daughter

Growing up, the kids in my family used to always tease my dad about his obsession with recycling. Not that we thought it was dumb or anything, he was just VERY adamant about it. Everyday he would come home from work and rummage through the garbage can to make sure nobody threw away something that could have been recycled. Yeah, it was a little strange, but it was important to him. The man alone has probably saved an entire rain forest. Well, now that I am away from home I have come to the realization that what I used to tease my father about has ironically been instilled in me. Unfortunately, Kev and I don't have a recycling bin in our apartment, i'm not really sure how to contact the city and let them know we want one. So every time I throw away a milk carton, plastic bottle, cardboard box, or egg carton into the trash I get a sad little feeling like i'm going against everything my incredible father has taught me. He would be very disappointed. Because of him I have learned EVERY item that is recyclable and non-recyclable. What a good man he is. Don't worry dad, some day I will pass on the recycling ways to my children that you have so diligently instilled in me.

No this isn't my father, but I put this up because i'm pretty sure that if my dad wasn't already set in his career as a doctor he would be a recycling man. Even if he had to collect it like this....

  1. i just found your cute blog! look how grown up you are... i guess that means i am grown up too.... weird. you look great :)

we recycle EVERYTHING but hate that in utah you have to pay for a can. so we fill up a small can at our house and when its full we take it over to my in-laws and dump it in their can. maybe your dad has extra room in his? im sure he would be proud!

  3. hahaha It's good to know what can actually be recycled. Our neighbors in MD would put so much stuff in there that I KNOW was not recyclable... it was pretty funny. But we don't have it here and it drives me crazy. Watched some of Wall-E today and thought of this post :)

  4. I love this post cause I may or may not have the trait instilled in me also. When I moved into my place I called and got a recycling can within a week or two of living here. I had the same guilty feeling putting all that recyclable stuff in a normal trash can. I hope I never take on the wearing of the same 3 identical shirts for years trait. That's not a good one! Ha.
